THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING SKILL SET:

    Experience in the development and execution of programs and activities.

    Psycho-social support skills for residents and their families.

    Associate's degree or above in social services, recreation therapy or medical/human services field.

    Minimum 3 years experience in development and facilitation of dementia-specific activity programs.

    Demonstrated knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease & related dementia.

    Prior experience working in a long term care/geriatric setting.

    Previous supervisory experience in a long term care or geriatric setting.

REHABILITATION THERAPIST

(Recreational, Music or Art Therpist)

Salem, OR

Salary: $3,235.00 - $4,716.00 Monthly

Usual work schedule: 0800 - 1700, Sunday through Thursday

The Oregon State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult specialty populations from throughout the state.  Inpatient services are currently licensed at 681 beds on 19 hospital units and residential services at 96 beds on 3 units.  OSH also offers community outreach services, specialized evaluations, and has a consumer support office.

DUTIES:

  • Employees in these positions provide individualized assessments and treatment programs in art, music or recreational therapy.  This specialized treatment service is goal-oriented and directed toward rehabilitation and modification of specific physical, emotional, cognitive, or social behaviors.

  • Gather information on patients to provide an initial and comprehensive assessment.

  • Design and carry out individual treatment programs and write individual treatment goals for residents/patients.

  • Develop and maintain documentation strategies and methods which record patient's progress in the program, and evaluation of service provided.

  • Participate as a member of an inter-disciplinary treatment team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Music Therapy or Master's degree in Art Therapy.

PROGRAM AND EDUCATION DIRECTOR

Hours: Full-Time, weekends, evenings and overnight travel required

Lead or manage (dependent upon position) Outdoor for All’s education in adaptive recreation therapy and techniques to ensure Outdoors for All remains responsive to trends within the adaptive and recreation industries. As a member of Outdoors for All Program team organize, develop, implement, manage and be responsible for all aspects of program activities, including: staff and volunteer management and training; program promotion and enrollment; equipment; adaptive recreation instruction; and risk management issues. Deliver adaptive and therapeutic recreation programs directly for individuals with disabilities and the organizations that serve them.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Prefer certification by NCTRCÒ as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation SpecialistTM (CTRS)Ò. Valid Washington State driver's license, ability to be insured by Outdoors for All or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.  Current certification in First Aid and CPR or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • Experience: Two+ (Manager) or Four+ (Director) years experience in general program management.  Two years (Director) or some (Manager) experience in outdoor recreation or adaptive program management preferred.  Two (Manager) or five (Director) years experience working with people with disabilities.

  • Public Speaking: Advanced skills (Director) or experience (Manager).  Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups up to several hundred people.

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to demonstrate Outdoors for All's key programs.  Knowledge of adaptive equipment and uses (Director).

  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds.

RECREATION THERAPIST

Orefield, PA

Implementation of therapeutic activities and interventions designed to help children maintain and improve functioning.  The position assesses each individual child's capabilities, needs and interests and identifies a program consistent with the Treatment Team's goals.  The Recreation Therapist will monitor progress and ensure appropriate documentation of progress in client records.

Duties:

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a weekly Recreation Program.

  • Provide supportive assistance for the residential units, i.e.: coverage, transportation, etc.

  • Monitor and be responsible for encouraging a safe and therapeutic environment in all designated areas for recreation.

  • Assist in the planning of a summer program.

  • Maintain effective communications with the residential units regarding programs and activities being offered.

  • Provide group and/or individual therapeutic activities to assist children in skill building, developing interpersonal relationships, socializing, relieving anxiety and tension, promoting wellness, expressing self, discovering new leisure interests and skills and increasing confidence.

  • Assess individual needs and consult other Treatment Team members in the process of clinical evaluation.

  • Perform crisis intervention duties including the use of passive restraint techniques as needed in the direct management of the population.

  • Provide group and individual recreational therapy sessions using a variety of media which allow for the exploration of emotions, needs and interpersonal relationships.

  • Maintain all written documentation in compliance with JCAHO therapeutic recreation standards including: appropriate entries and goal statements in the individualized Treatment Plans, Psych Clinic notes, Treatment Plan Recommendations and reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Current certification in Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Pass a Criminal Record History Clearance and a Child Abuse History Clearance

  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Pass a Physical & Drug Screening

  • Ability to attend and successfully complete all KidsPeace sponsored trainings.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

Hours: Temporary, 6-9 hours weekly, weekends and evenings

  • Develops course outline and objectives for program.

  • Knowledge of the nature and etiology of physical, mental, and / or emotional disabilities and their potential impact upon an individual's ability to engage in recreational activities.

  • Ability to assess the recreational interests and needs of people with disabilities.

  • Ability to teach and conduct modified recreational classes and activities creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive to all participants.

  • Ability to adapt activities and equipment to meet the needs of people with various disabilities.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Work in cooperation with staff and the public.

  • Identify hazards, implement solutions, and maintain a afe and orderly environment for program participants.

  • Work with minimal supervision.

  • Work within the policies and guidelines set by the City.

  • Experience and/or training in therapeutic recreation and experience working with people with disabilities in a group setting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.

  • NCTRC certification or ability to acquire is desired but not a requirement.

CERTIFIED THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALISTÒ

Indianapolis, IN

Meaningful Day Services, Inc. is seeking full-time and part-time Certified Therapeutic Recreation SpecialistsÒ in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne to provide home and community-based recreational therapy services to individuals throughout the lifespan through the Indiana Medicaid Waiver and First Steps Early Intervention program.

Our therapists conduct standardized assessments for each client, attend interdisciplinary team meetings, develop and implement treatment plans and interventions based on assessed need, educate families and caregivers on TR processes and techniques and document measurable client progress on a quarterly basis.  Typical full-time caseload is 18-28 clients, each client generally seen 1 time per week.  Duration of therapy sessions is based upon number of Recreation Therapy hours approved by the state within each client's plan.  Our Recreational Therapists may also be trained to provide Developmental Therapy for infants and toddlers.
