EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS

5th Annual First Swing Seminar

July 28 and 29, 2008; 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

FOR: Rehabilitation, P&R and Golf professionals

COST: Registration $10

              CEUs available: $10 for ATRA members, $15 for all others

Introduces an adaptive golf model covering the instruction of golf basics and adaptive golf techniques for individuals with physical disabilities, including:

  • Grip methods

  • Stance and balance

  • Swing methods

  • ADA and accessibility issues

  • Tips for users of wheelchairs and single rider golf carts

  • Hands-on experience using adaptive golf devices and equipment

  • On the second day, pair with your fellow seminar participants as well as experienced therapists and golf pros to work cooperatively to provide adaptation and instruction to Learn to Golf Clinic participants with physical disabilities to get them back into the game.  This is your chance to put your new skills and knowledge into practice and demonstrate your competencies in the skills and techniques learned the previous day.

    The second day is free-of-charge to individuals with physical disabilities where they will receive 1:2 instruction (Participant : Therapist, Golf Pro).  Encourage your clients with physical disabilities to register for the clinic!

    PRESENTERS

    Bob Wilson: Executive Director, National Amputee Golf Association.  Bob created the First Swing clinic and has been teaching adaptive golf to therapists and golf pros for over 20 years.  He received bilaterial below-the-knee amputations while serving in the Navy.

    WC Fields: First Swing Director, Western Amputee Golf Association.  WC, an Army veteran, has been conducting First Swing clinics since 1987 and endured bilateral below-the-knee amputations in an industrial accident.

    Bob Tipton: Bob has been teaching adaptive sports clinics across the country and was bitten by the "Golf Bug" in 2001.  After he lost his leg above the knee in a Viet Nam combat injury, he pursued a career in Physical Therapy.
